Call forwarding: codes for Movistar, Vodafone, Orange and other carriers

How to switch call forwarding on and off on your mobile: GSM codes to forward always, when unanswered, when busy or with no signal, and what to watch out for with each carrier.

By the DevRoam team ·

Call forwarding lets calls to your number ring on another one. It's the simplest way to connect your usual line to a smart answering machine or an AI virtual receptionist without changing your number.

The codes in this guide are the standard GSM codes that work on most phones and carriers in Spain (Movistar, Vodafone, Orange, Yoigo, MásMóvil, Digi and MVNOs). Some carriers or tariffs may have their own quirks: always check with yours.

The four types of call forwarding

Type of forwardingWhen it forwardsActivateDeactivateCheck
UnconditionalAlways**21*NUMBER###21#*#21#
When unansweredAfter a few rings**61*NUMBER###61#*#61#
No signal / phone offWhen you can't be reached**62*NUMBER###62#*#62#
When busyWhen you're on another call**67*NUMBER###67#*#67#

To cancel all forwarding at once: ##002#.

Replace NUMBER with the destination number, ideally with the international prefix (for example, +34910000000), and press the call button.

Which forwarding suits a business

For an AI receptionist to handle only the calls you can't, activate the three conditional forwards (unanswered, busy and no signal). That way:

  1. If you pick up, you talk.
  2. If you're with a customer or can't get to the phone, the AI answers.
  3. If you're on another call, the second customer doesn't hear an engaged tone.

Many phones let you activate them all at once with **004*NUMBER# (all conditional forwards). If your carrier doesn't support it, activate them one by one.

Changing the delay before forwarding

On many networks you can set how many seconds to wait before forwarding an unanswered call: **61*NUMBER**20# (20 seconds; typical values are between 5 and 30, in multiples of 5). If it doesn't work, your carrier uses a fixed delay.

Notes by carrier

  • Movistar: standard GSM codes work on mobiles. On landlines, forwarding is a service with its own codes; check the Mi Movistar app.
  • Vodafone: standard GSM codes work on mobiles. On some tariffs you can also manage it from Mi Vodafone.
  • Orange: standard GSM codes on mobiles; on some business tariffs, forwarding is managed from the customer area.
  • Yoigo, MásMóvil, Digi and MVNOs: they usually support GSM codes; some have voicemail switched on by default with a forward to voicemail that you need to replace.

From your phone's settings

  • iPhone: Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding (unconditional only; use the codes for the conditional ones).
  • Android: Phone → Settings → Calls → Call forwarding (varies by manufacturer), with options for each type.

Common problems

  • "Connection problem or invalid MMI code": check the format, try with and without +34, or switch off voicemail first.
  • Calls still go to voicemail: voicemail uses its own conditional forward. Activating yours replaces it.
  • When abroad: forwarded calls may incur roaming charges.

Frequently asked questions

Does call forwarding cost money?

It depends on your tariff: a forwarded call is usually billed as a call from your line to the destination number. With unlimited calls to national landlines and mobiles there's normally no extra cost, but check with your carrier.

How do I know if I have forwarding switched on?

Dial *#21# (unconditional), *#61# (unanswered), *#62# (no signal) or *#67# (busy) and press call: your phone will show the status.

Does it work for landlines?

Landlines use different codes and services depending on the carrier. Check your carrier's customer area or customer service.
